KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 13

A first-of-its-kind academic initiative, the Global Math Debate League (GMDL), has been launched in Nepal by Embark UnMath, redefining how mathematics is taught and discussed in classrooms.

The program merges mathematical reasoning with debate, encouraging students to treat mathematics as a language of thought and dialogue rather than just numbers and formulas. Over 5,000 students from schools across Nepal are participating in this year's three-stage competition, comprising Screening, Regional Selection, and National Final Rounds.

According to Divesh Bathija, co-founder of Embark UnMath, 'Mathematics is much more than calculations; it's an exciting journey of logical thinking and problem-solving. This league gives students a platform to experience learning beyond the traditional classroom.'

The GMDL aims to nurture collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, helping students enhance analytical ability and public speaking while understanding real-world mathematical applications.

Founded in 2012, UnMath School has been a pioneer in experiential mathematics education. Its global arm, Embark UnMath, continues to expand programs such as the Math Marathon and Space Math to make learning math engaging and transformative.
