KATHMANDU: All Nepal National Free Students Union, student wing of CPN-UML, today said it would hold its statute convention to make plans and strategies to improve education quality and students’ protest peaceful and decent on August 14 and 15 in Kathmandu. A press statement issued by ANNFSU stated that the decision was made by a secretariat meeting held on July 25 and 26 under the chairmanship of Kishor Bikram Malla in the presence of Constituent Assembly member Rabindra Adhikari, who is the chief of Students Department of the CPN-UML. FNJ’s suggestions KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists on Wednesday submitted a list of suggestions on the draft constitution to the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee on Wednesday. A delegation led by FNJ president Mahendra Bista met Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman of the CPDCC, and submitted the suggestions. According to a statement issued by FNJ, Bista told Bhattarai that the constitution must guarantee freedom of expression. In response, Bhattarai said that the CPDCC had taken the suggestions positively and expressed his commitment to address the concerns. Arrested for theft KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested the main suspect behind the April 26 theft at Jana Milan Cooperative in Samakhusi. Raju Tamang, 22, of Bhalche, Nuwakot, currently residing at Samakhusi, together with his associates had barged into the cooperative and decamped with a shelf containing Rs 700,170 as well as gold ornaments weighing 43 tola, the Metropolitan Police Crime Division said. As per preliminary investigation, the gang took the shelf to Shivapuri National Park via Tokha, broke it there, and divided the money as well as gold ornaments among them. Earlier on June 29, police had apprehended Mek Lal Tamang, 22, of Nuwakot district, one of the suspects behind the theft. NP gets rescue kits KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly member Rabindra Adhikari handed over rescue and construction materials to Nepal Police on behalf of NITV Media Pvt Ltd, Japan, amid a function organised in Naxal on Wednesday. The materials were granted by NITV and Japan-based Mirai Environment Development Laboratory Co Ltd. The materials include LED floodlights, which spread light in a radius of more than 50 metres, to carry out search and rescue operations.
