Yelena sets new record
MADRID: Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva broke her own world record in the women’s pole vault, clearing 4.95m at the Super Grand Prix meet. The 22-year-old Olympic champion bettered her previous record of 4.93m, set on July 5 in Switzerland. She also broke the world indoor mark in Madrid, clearing 4.90m at the European Indoor Championships on March 6. — AP

SAINT-LARY-SOULAN: Lance Armstrong’s teammate, George Hincapie, won the second and hardest Tour de France stage in the Pyrenees, cruising to the line while the six-time Tour champion was still riding. Hincapie, the first Armstrong teammate to win a Tour stage since the American’s first victory in 1999, beat Oscar Pereiro on the day’s last climb. — AP
