GAIGHAT: Locals at Baraha VDC in Udayapur are reeling under acute shortage of water after underground sources of water dried up. The village has been facing acute water shortage after Dhupichhanga Water Project at Baraha VDC stopped supplying water. Chairman Om Bahadur Karki at the water project said that project had been unable to supply water after the underground water sources dried up following the deadly quake of April 25 and its subsequent aftershocks. “The village does not have an alternative water source. Thus, village folks have been taking a three-hour walk to the Bhutiya khola to fetch water,” Karki added. Local Khindra Raut said housewives were forced to visit Bhutiya Khola in the wee hours to fetch water. “The water shortage here have made our lives miserable,” said Raut.
