Nawalparasi, April 3 More than ten persons were injured in a clash that broke out between local traders and police personnel over the decision to shift the hatbazaar to Sunwal in Nawalparasi today. The clash had erupted after attempts were made to shift the hatbazaar that is held at Sunwal Chowk every Sunday to Sunwal Municipality’s Naduwatole. Police had charged batons and fired six rounds of tear gas shells to contain the situation. Of the injured, six are locals and four are police personnel. Locals and traders charged that police had tried to shift the market unilaterally without consultation with them. Traders say they will shift to new places only if they were given three months’ time. Madhav Prasad, Officer at the municipality, however, said that his office had decided to remove the market place immediately as it had hindered service delivery of the municipality.
