Elephant kills elderly woman, damages houses in Chitwan

CHITWAN: An elderly woman died after a wild elephant attacked her at Madi in Chitwan district on Friday night. According to the Chitwan District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as Jalpu Pawe (75) of Madi Municipality-8. Police said the elephant strayed from the Chitwan National Park had entered the human settlement. Police and locals were escorting the elephant back to the Park when Pawe was attacked. The wild elephant also damaged two houses including of Pawe, Man Bahadur Gharti, Purna Bhadra Kafle and Tulasi Adhikari, police added. The body of Jalpu is being kept at the Madi Hospital, said police. Frequent reports of wild elephants entering human settlements have been reported in the district of late.
