Implementation of media policy will not be affected: Minister Rai

Kathmandu, July 26 Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai today said that the changed political scenario would not affect implementation of the National Media Policy-2073. At a discussion with members of a high-level committee on information and communication, Minister Rai claimed that there would be no problem in the implementation of the media policy as it was brought by consulting and forging consensus among all sides. A Cabinet meeting on July 22 had approved the media policy. Stating that introduction of the first media policy was a historic achievement, he thanked the committee members for drafting the policy. The committee had submitted its report to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on July 20. Minister Rai further said that a mechanism was necessary to monitor implementation of the policy. Similarly, secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the ministry had played a significant role in making sector-wise policy after promulgation of the new constitution. Committee Chairman Kashiraj Dahal said that some laws should be amended for implementation of the policy. President of the Federation of the Nepali Journalists Mahendra Bista expressed the view the media sector was satisfied with the policy drafted by the committee.
