ACC UNDER-19 CUP: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar register wins

Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait registered wins at the ACC Under-19 Cup cricket tournament, which has been organised by Cricket Association of Nepal, here today.

At the Institute of Engineering ground, Saudi Arabia defeated Maldives by 143 runs. Put into bat, Saudi Arabia accumulated 272 runs losing nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Saudi Arabia started badly losing opener Saad Khan for a duck. The other opener Imran Nasir (26) and Shuaib Ali (52) shared a 78-run partnership for the second wicket, but both of them got out at the score of 87. Shuaib hit seven boundaries in his 48-ball innings. Maldives bowlers struck at regular intervals and claimed next six wickets for 85 runs.

No 7 Mohammad Ali and No 10 Ijaz Sagheer shared an unbroken 98-run partnership to put Saudi Arabia in commanding position. Ali hit five fours and two sixes in his 62-ball 78, while Sagheer remained unbeaten on 20 off 31 balls.

Ahmed Umar claimed 3-53 off 10 overs, while Mohamed Mahafooz and Mihusan Hamid took two wickets each for Maldives. In reply, Imran Nasir took five wickets as Maldives failed to overcome the target and were packed off for 129 runs. Openers Ahmed Sobir and Zazal Nazim put on 40 runs on the board before Imran Nasir struck claiming Sobir for 13 runs. Nazim also departed scoring 13 runs. Mihusan Hamid was the top-scorer for Maldives with 29 off 66 balls including three fours.

Nasir took 5-28 in eight overs, while Shuaib Ali claimed three wickets for Saudi Arabia. Usman Ali, who also got two wickets in addition to his half century, was named the man of the match.

At Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya ground in Bhaktapur, Qatar defeated Oman by 80 runs. Batting first, Qatar was bowled out for 141 runs in 42.4 overs. No 4 Faisal Noor got the half century, hitting 56 off 78 balls including seven fours.

For Oman, Md Imran and Ali Bilal took three wickets each and Rafeeq Mohammed claimed two. In reply, Oman was bundled out for just 61 runs in 32.2 overs. No 8 Ahmed MA Balushi was the top-scorer with 14 runs. Rafeeq Mohammed (13) and Ali Bilal (10) were the other batsmen who reached the double figure mark.

For Qatar, man of the match Kamran Khan took four wickets conceding 16 runs in 10 overs, while Omer Arshad and Tamoor Sajjad claimed two each. At TU, Kuwait defeated United Arab mirates by 43 runs. Batting first Kuwait accumulated 246 runs in 50 overs. Habibullah Iftikar top-scored with 48 off 64 balls hitting four fours and a six, while Sibian Raza hit seven boundaries in his 60-ball 47. Abdul Rehman Mani scored 42-ball 42 including three fours.

For UAE, Wasim Bari took 3-31 off six overs, while Pranav Arora claimed 2-29 off seven overs. In reply, the UAE were packed for 203 runs in 48.4 overs despite Kaizad Jehangir’s unbeaten 70. Jahangit hit seven fours and a six in his 116-ball knock. Rameez Shahzad scored 27, while Shoaib Sarwar made 24. For Kuwait, Sibtian Raza took 3-16 off five overs and also won the man of the match award.
