KATHMANDU, JUNE 11

A three-day AI literacy training programme aimed at enhancing digital skills and promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) among community members and local government representatives began in Lalitpur on Friday.

The programme, titled "From Access to Agency: AI Literacy Pilot," is being conducted in collaboration with Lalitpur Metropolitan City-2 and Open Knowledge Nepal.

The training, running from June 12 to 14 at Shangrila Blue Hotel in Lalitpur, has brought together ward representatives and community participants to explore the practical use of AI in livelihoods, communication and local governance.

According to the organisers, the first day focuses on helping participants safely use AI tools and develop responsible digital practices. The second day is dedicated to applying AI to real-life livelihood, service delivery and communication tasks, while the final day will see participants prepare three-month action plans to implement and share their learning within their communities.

The organisers said the initiative aims to strengthen AI literacy by providing hands-on experience in areas such as translation, content creation and access to government services. The programme also seeks to build participants' confidence in using AI responsibly in everyday life and governance.

The pilot project is supported by the Atlantic Fellowship for Social and Economic Equity under the London School of Economics International Inequalities Institute.

Organisers said participants will continue receiving support through weekly follow-up sessions over the next three months, culminating in a showcase of their progress and AI-driven initiatives.
