Five persons die from scrub typhus in Kailali

KALALI: Five persons died from scrub typhus in Kailali district in the past two months. The deceased have been identified as Dipa Rana (28) of Dhangadhi Sub Metropolitan City, Krishna Bogati (15) of Pahalman VDC, Dibas Chaudhary (16) of Phulbari, Sagun Rana (24) of Phulbari and Anju Kumari Sarki (12) of Urma, who were receiving treatment at the Seti Zonal Hospital, Dhangadhi. Scrub typhus is an acute, febrile, infectious illness that is caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi. Meanwhile, Dr Sher Bahadur Kamar at the hospital said 91 persons were tested positive for the disease. He also said despite their repeated call, the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division was yet to supply test kits, making it difficult to conduct test for the disease.
