Shivaay Genre: Action Thriller Director: Ajay Devgn Cast: Ajay Devgn, Sayesha Saigal, Erika Kaar, Abigail Eames et cetera Being screened at QFX Cinemas Kathmandu Shivaay (Ajay Devgn) lives in the mountain and guides the tourists. Olga (Erika Kaar), who has come from Bulgaria to visit the mountains, falls in love with Shivaay and gives birth to their daughter Gaura (Abigail Eames). Then Olga returns to Bulgaria, leaving behind Shivaay and Gaura. Eight years later, Shivaay makes a journey to Bulgaria to fulfil his daughter’s wish to meet her mother. But the eight-year-old girl is kidnapped in Bulgaria. The movie then narrates furious Shivaay’s journey to rescue his daughter. The movie resembles the plot of Pierre Morel directed Taken (2008). Like in Taken Shivaay too deals with the issue of flesh trade and trafficking. Suspense too isn’t well maintained. Devgn doesn’t make much impression as a director. However, cinematography is stunning — snow capped mountains, icicles, snowfall and avalanche have been brilliantly captured. Sadly, camera run fast in few scenes making the images blur. Stunts in the beginning scenes guarantee the adrenaline rush. And one hopes to see more such thrilling scenes in the film, but only a few action scenes towards the film’s end deliver the same level of thrill. Shivaay’s character is interesting — a simple man who has to go through extraordinary circumstances in life. But Devgn fails to enhance the character’s essence. He delivers an average performance. A devotee of Lord Shiva, he brands the tattoos of Lord Shiva in his body, but they are nothing spectacular. One wonders what happened to Devgn who had given a brilliant performance in 2015 Drishyam. Child actor Eames at times makes the audiences emotional though her acts, yet she could have done much better.
