Election Commission wants week-long holiday in schools

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission on Wednesday requested the government to declare holiday in schools in 34 districts for a week till the local elections are concluded on May 14. Speaking to THT Online over phone, Election Commission Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said, 'Election Commission has asked the government to halt educational activities from May 8 to 14.' Also, the Election Commission has asked the government to declare public holiday on May 14 in the districts where elections are being held in the first phase. The Ministry of Education has already received the Election Commission's written request to close schools for a week, according to MoE's Spokesperson Hari Prasad Lamsal. A final decision would be made tomorrow, he informed.
