Kathmandu, January 31 Amrita Gyawali, 25, who has a physical disability, wants to go paragliding and take on adventures, but her physical condition comes in the way. Speaking at a programme organised to release a public service announcement video on disability here today, she shared that while fulfilling her dreams, she also wanted to show other people with disability that nothing was impossible for them. In the video, she is seen enjoying paragliding, boating, and jeep riding. She shared, “It is very difficult for disabled people to fulfil their dreams as they always need someone’s support. Had there been disabled people-friendly infrastructure they would have been able to travel and do so many other things on their own.” Prabin Shrestha, director and editor of the video, shared that it took a lot of effort in making the video as both he and Gyawali were physically-disabled and they had to climb hills and stairs while shooting it. He also said despite having video editing skills, he had been so far been unable to upgrade his knowledge due to his physical disability. “I spent 15 years inside the studio editing videos. For the first time, I went outdoors to shoot this video with others’ support. If there were disabled people-friendly infrastructure in the country, I would not have to rely on others and would not be subject to pity and sympathy of others,” Shrestha said. Releasing the PSA at the programme, Chief Information Commissioner Krishna Hari Baskota said there had been some positive changes for disabled people in the country and that it would take some time to build all infrastructure friendly to people with disabilities.
