Nepal Teachers Federation calls off agitation

By Rastriya Samachar Samiti

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers Federation has called off its pre-announced agitation programmes following talks with the government.

The Federation has put off ‘Let Us Go Kathmandu’ programme set for December 7 after the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology assured them of holding talks to address their demands in presence of representatives from Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Ministry of Finance.

Earlier on November 30, the Federation obstructed the day-to-day curricular operation of community schools and staged a demonstration in Kathmandu.

The Federation has been agitating for the past six months putting forth several demands, including amendment to constitution on returning school education rights from local level, implementation of past agreements made with the teachers, and adequate allocation of budget for free and compulsory education.
