Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, in collaboration with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Nepal Rastra Bank, has organised a capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening Nepal's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework in line with international standards.

The full-day workshop, titled "Enhancing AML/CFT/CPF Compliance Effectiveness – Aligning with FATF Standards," brought together more than 140 participants from regulatory bodies, banks and financial institutions, insurance companies, securities market intermediaries, cooperatives and other reporting entities.

According to a press release issued by the bank, the programme focused on enhancing Nepal's anti-money laundering (AML), countering the financing of terrorism (CFT) and countering proliferation financing (CPF) compliance framework through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Experts from Standard Chartered Bank's India operations led technical sessions on managing financial crime risks, Nepal's progress under the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) action plan, the implications of grey listing, lessons from international experience and measures to strengthen compliance mechanisms.

The workshop was addressed by officials from FIU-Nepal, Nepal Rastra Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, who underscored the importance of stronger public-private collaboration, risk-based supervision, effective investigations and greater accountability to support Nepal's efforts to meet FATF requirements and exit the grey list.

Rajkamal Basnet, Head of Financial Institutions at Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, said combating financial crime requires sustained partnerships, continuous learning and coordinated efforts across the financial sector. He said the initiative was intended to strengthen industry-wide capacity and reinforce Nepal's financial integrity and compliance framework.

Standard Chartered Bank Nepal said the workshop reflects its continued commitment to supporting a transparent and resilient financial system through capacity building, knowledge sharing and collaboration with key stakeholders.
