Smuggled goods worth over Rs 500,000 seized in Bara

BARA: Police have seized smuggled goods worth over Rs 500,000 from assorted locations in Bara district, in recent days. A police team deployed from District Police Office (DPO), Bara, confiscated smuggled goods -- readymade clothes and daily consumable products -- from various locations in the district today. Police seized illegally imported goods -- sugar, biscuits, pickles, edible oil, chewing tobacco, electrical appliances -- worth Rs 100,000 from Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-6 in the district, on Friday. Similarly, police intercepted four motorbikes and seized smuggled readymade saris worth Rs 400,000 near Martiarwa Tole in Kalaiya Sub-Metropolis-10, on Saturday night. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Bikash Raj Khanal at Bara DPO, police seized 1,005 sets of readymade kurta and 205 sets of chaubandi from assorted locations. The seized items have been handed over to the Customs Department, Birgunj, for further investigation and legal action, SP Khanal shared.
