Kathmandu, June 27:

Western Union Money Transfer and Postal Services Department (PSD), Nepal have signed a five-year long agreement to provide inbound money transfer services through Western Union Money Transfer network.

Now people will be able to receive money transfer facilities in 200 post offices across the country, states a press release of Western Union. “The people of Nepal need a fast, reliable and convenient means to receive money sent from their loved ones across the world. With our extensive global agent network, Western Union is uniquely positioned to meet the expection,” said Anil Kapur, managing director for South Asia, Western Union. He added that with the agreement, the company looks forward to providing fast, reliable and convenient access to money transfer services to the Nepalis.

About 9,00,000 Nepalis are estimated to be working abroad, and according to the World Bank Report, they sent about $1,211 million to Nepal in 2006, which accounts for about 20 per cent of the country’s GDP.

“This tie up is a great addition to our offering, which will enable us to cater to our huge customer base by providing them a broader platform to receive money from abroad in a fast and safe way,” said Shreedhar Gautam, director general at PSD.
