Kathmandu, June 29:

Speakers at an interaction today appreciated the media’s efforts in bringing social discrimination to light.

Speaking at the interaction on ‘Role of media for the eradication of untouchability for social justice,’ Tribhuvan Chandra Wagle, the deputy editor of Gorkhapatra, said, “The media has been bringing to light the issues relating to the minority groups.”

“Providing space in the media for issues of the Dalits will help settle issues within the society,” he said.

Deepak Aryal, reporter of Radio Sagarmatha, said, “Mediapersons can raise the issues more effectively if they are able to gather information from institutionalised sources.”

Govinda Dhital, reporter of the Nepal Television, asked whether media persons are supposed to highlight incidents of discrimination or the good things that the minority groups do.
