Kathmandu, March 17:
Protesters gathered at Basantapur Durbar Square today issued a two-week ultimatum to the government to ensure regular water supply in the capital.
Addressing the meet, CA member elected from the area, Nabindra Raj Joshi, said the government had been negligent towards addressing the needs of the people. The lawmaker accused the government of doing nothing except collecting taxes.
Civil society members, who participated in the gathering, questioned what the government had been doing all these days, if it was not doing anything to alleviate their suffering. Artist Kiran Manandhar said the people were being compelled to take to the streets due to the sorry state of affairs. “It’s a matter of shame for a country, also known for its water resources, to face continued water and power crisis,” he said.
The demonstrators also demanded that a water governing policy be drafted at the earliest.
