The ‘Commitment Implementation Monitoring Special Committee’ of the legislature parliament

at a meeting today decided to intensify the monitoring process of the commitments made by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal about three months ago.

Among several commitments, the PM had committed to implement the nine-point demand made by the main opposition Nepali Congress at the parliament.

The 11-member committee was formed on January 19 to monitor the progress of implementation of commitments made by the government. The meeting also elected Balkrishna Khand, member of the committee representing NC, as the coordinator.

The committee meeting also decided to collect reports from all the political parties of the Constituent Assembly within 15 days on seized properties, displaced people, murder and kidnapping of people and injured persons during the decade long Maoist insurgency.

According to a committee member representing NC Jagadishwor Narsingha KC, the meeting also issued a notice to the concerned people requesting them to submit the photocopy of the official documents of their seized land within 15 days to the committee or the concerned District Administration Office.

“The committee also directed the government to collect written records from the 20 districts where there were no complaints of seized properties,” informed KC. He added that the government had ignored the committee’s earlier instruction by providing a weak report on the status of the implementation.

According to KC, more than 605 people were killed, 2,986 families displaced, properties of 2,155 families seized, 204 kidnapped and 284 people injured during the conflict period, according to a data collected by NC in 49 districts. Data of the rest of the districts are being collected, added KC.

The PM’s commitments include return of the seized properties within three months and dissolution of the paramilitary structure of the Young Communist League.
