Blast at Chuchepati

KATHMANDU: A sudden explosion rocked Chuchepati on Saturday afternoon. Pritam Simkhada, a local shopowner, said people heard the noise at around 2:30pm at Chuchepati chowk. Police said that there was scrap in the middle of waste. “It could have been the sound of unused fire-crackers lying in the heap of garbage that was piled up by locals at the edge of the chowk,” a police official at the Bouddha ward police office said. — HNS

Honour for Dr Tripathy

KATHMANDU: The second BD Tyagi Honour is being given to vice-chancellor of

Royal Nepal Academy Dr Basudev Tripathy. The BD Tyagi Memorial Award of Rs 1111 will be awarded to Byakul Pathak, and Bhim Kumari Pokhrel will be honoured with the B D Tyagi Yogdan Samman for her contribution to publish the B D Tyagi Memorial Book. — RSS

Bista undergoes surgery

KATHMANDU: Vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers Kirtinidhi Bista on Saturday underwent an abscess surgery at Nepal Medical College teaching hospital, Attarkhel, Jorpati. According to the college, Bista’s condition is normal. Vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers Dr Tulsi Giri visited the hospital. — RSS

Story writer awarded

KATHMANDU: This year’s Guru Prasad Mainali Short-Story Prize, established by the Literary Journalists’ Association, has been awarded to short-story writer Mahesh Bikram Shah. Litterateur Diamond Shumsher Rana gave away the Rs 20,000 prize to Shah at a programme. — RSS
