Sixty-seven industries are in operation with foreign investment in Lumbini Province. Of them, 34 are small-scale industries, 16 middle-scale and 17 large-scale.

At an interaction with the International Finance Corporation in Butwal, member of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and President of Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ujjwal Prasad Kasaju presented this data putting forth his remarks on the possibilities and challenges faced by businesses in Lumbini Province.

Stating that Lumbini Province is also an attractive area for foreign investment, Kasaju said service-oriented, production-oriented and tourism sectors fall under the list of top choice of foreign investors.

There are 882 big industries, around 25,000 cottage and small industries, and around 150,000 commercial firms in Lumbini Province.

Kasaju further said there was the possibility of industry based on agriculture and forest products and tourism industry in the province.

Lumbini Province contributes 14 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product of the country.

Bhairahawa is considered a special economic zone with two industrial areas.

Bhairahawa-Lumbini, Butwal-Bhairahawa, Bhairahawa-Parasi and Parasi-Bhumahi are the main industrial corridors of the province.

Likewise, there is the proposed Motipur industrial area in Rupandehi and Naubasta industrial area in Banke.
