‘India has a shortage of managers’

Ahmedabad, April 2:

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) today launched its one-year postgraduate programme in management for working executives.

Inaugurating the programme, the chairperson of the IIMA board of governors, N R Narayan Murthy said, “India has a shortage of ma-nagers. Our top business sc-hools should increase their intake so that some students can go overseas to improve India’s image while the rest can serve the country.” With the launch of the new cour-se, the total student stren-gt-h at this premier business sc-hool will go up to nearly 700, said director Bakul Dholakia.

The programme is a full-time, residential course in business management for executives with substantial work experience. It aims to develop bright, enthusiastic and aspiring executives into management leaders in the global arena. The institute had originally planned to admit 50 students in the first batch of the course. However, following the encouraging response, 61 executives have been accommodated in the course that costs Rs 800,000 Indian Currency . To run the programme, the II-MA had allied with two forei-gn institutes, University of British Columbia of Canada, and ESSEC Business School.
