Humanitarian aid

PARASI: Industrialists and businessmen of Nawalparasi district have assisted the families of victims who lost their lives in the district headquarters Parasi two weeks ago. Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries central member Guna Nidhi Tiwari donated Rs 10,000, said FNCCI’s Nawalparasi chapter. The bazaar security committee has collected Rs 17,500 to assist the bereaved families, said committee chairman Munna Gupta. Ram Shanker Loniya, 18, and Anarjit Mallaha of Ramgram-2, Jogendra Prasad Dharikar, 31, and Dharmendra Chaudhary of Ramgram-3 died in a road mishap along Sunawal-Parasi road section in the district.

Cattle perishing

GULMI: Foot-and-mouth disease has so far claimed over three dozen cattle in the past two weeks in Gulmi district. Forty head of livestock perished in 12 VDCs, including Tamghas, Arkhale, Hastichaur and Jaisethok where the deadly disease is raging and a large number of people are into the dairy business. According to veterinarians, foot-and-mouth disease causes blisters on the toes and mouth of milch cattle and they die soon after. Around 150 cattle have been vaccinated against the disease by the District Livestock Office, said Resunga Conservation Committee, a social organisation working to control the disease. It has not been ascertained yet where the disease broke out.

Mine collapse death

PYUTHAN: A person was killed and three injured when a clay mine collapsed in Bijuwar-7 of Pyuthan on Sunday morning. Sixteen-year-old Sunita BK from Bijuwar-6 died on the spot when she was buried under the soil after the clay mine collapsed while she was extracting red soil. Mithu Nepali, 40, Tuka Sunar, 32, and Sonia BK, 20, were injured in the incident. The condition of Mithu is reportedly critical.

Bridgeless VDC

BARA: Thousands of people have been hit hard due to lack of a bridge over Sirsiyakhola in Jitpur of Bara district. Flood washed away the bridge seven years ago. Over 100,000 people of Bakuliya, Phattepur, Musahar Tole, Jaitapur and others are affected. Hari Chaudhary of Bakuliya said it is difficult carrying daily essentials and other commodities for lack of a bridge over the river. “We can’t take our products to the market because there is no bridge,” he complained. During rainy season, people traverse 25km via district headquarters Kalaiya to negotiate what was a 5km distance, said Hare Ram BK.

NLEA election

LEKHNATH: The seventh national general convention of Nepal Livestock Entrepreneurs’ Association (NLEA) concluded in Pokhara on Saturday after electing a new leadership of the association for the next two years. Nawa Raj Sharma Timilsina of Kathmandu was elected chairman. Prajapati Banstola of Kaski, Hemraj Baral of Kathmandu and Laxmilal Ghimire of Chitwan were elected vice-chairmen. Prakash Neupane won the post of general secretary. He was elected unopposed.

Tourist-centric hotel

RASUWA: A hotel has started work in Thambuche of Rasuwa district to provide quality services to tourists coming to the district for viewing the Himalayan region and observing Tamang culture. Hotel Paradise has opened at Thamboche of Chilime VDC with investment of Rs 2,500,000 by the private sector. It can cater to 30 guests at a time, said owner Bikram Shrestha. Mostly, tourists come to visit Tatopani, Nagthali, Sanjen and Mt Ganesh area. The hotel will prove a boon to them.
