RBB fiscal showing

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) during the first three months of the present fiscal year registered a net profit of Rs 1.55 billion. According to a press statement, the bank posted an operating profit of Rs 600 million, an increase of 200 per cent over the same period last year. The bank posted total deposits of Rs 65.21 billion with total credit flow of Rs 465.1 million. — HNS


Hail damages crops

DAMAULI: Crops worth millions of rupees have been damaged by a hailstorm in three VDCs of Tanahun on Sunday evening. The hailstorm damaged vegetables and maize crop in Bandipur, Ghansikuwa and Bhanu VDCs, said Shankar Acharya, a local. The hailstorm lasted an hour. Around 400 farmers have been hit hard. — RSS


Impact of drought

BIRATNAGAR: Prolonged drought may affect the Chaite rice crop and other crops this year in Sunsari. The District Agricultural Development Office said farmers could not prepare the enough seedlings for the rice crop. In 2008, Chaite rice was planted on 10,250 hectares of land. — RSS


Breeding centre hit

ITAHARI: The buffalo research centre at Tarahara, Sunsari, is facing a lack of budget as the the government has not allocate it on time,

said Buffalo Research Officer and senior scientist Pulkit Mandal.

The centre was supplying improved strains of buffalo to farmers across the country. — RSS
