Nepal, Tibet trade ties

KATHMANDU: The minister of industry, commerce and supplies, Rajendra Mahato, met a Tibetan delegation led by the vice-president of the government in Tibet, Deng Xiaogang, to discuss bilateral trade issues. The minister requested that efforts be made to develop infrastructure, create Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and build a dry port at the border area. He also requested that a railway be constructed up to Nepal border. Xiaogang said that these requests would be forwarded positively by the delegation. He further informed that plans had already been prepared for infrastructure development on the Tibetan side and for the construction of a road from Kerung to Syaprubesi. —HNS

Jagadamba Cement

KATHMANDU: Jagdamba Cement Industries Pvt Ltd has decided to set up another unit in Birgunj within this fiscal year. It is also soon entering a Green Field Project by setting up a state of the art Rotary Kiln based Clinker manufacturing unit in Nepal. With this, the management of the company aims to become one of the biggest cement producers in Nepal. The Company currently produces 18,000 bags of cement per day. — HNS

Blood donation

KATHMANDU: NIC Bank organised a blood donation campaign in association with the Nepal Red Cross Society at its corporate office in Kamaladi, Kathmandu on September 8. This was done to help reduce the shortage of blood at different blood banks in the valley. 180 people participated in the campaign among which 40 were staff members of the bank. The bank is planning to organise this event annually as a part of its corporate social responsibility programme that also includes providing scholarships to students and broadcasting anti-smoking messages through FM stations. — HNS
