Construction of German Technical School begins

Dhading, April 18

The construction of a mega vocational training centre has begun at Dhunibesi-5 of Dhading district.

With an objective to create technical manpower in the country itself, Sheshkant Foundation — a non-profit organisation — has partnered with Voith Hydro and various other German-based firms to construct the vocational training centre named ‘German Technical School’.

Pawan Dhakal, project manager of the centre, informed that the entire project is expected to cost almost Rs 170 million and is spread over almost 25 ropanis of land.

Speaking at a programme organised at Dhunibesi-5 today, Dhakal said that the training centre will primarily focus on offering training on various technical subjects to households and children of earthquake-affected people across the country. “Though our first target is to provide technical training to quake victims, we will gradually develop German Technical School (GTS) as a hub for technical education and knowledge-sharing.”

Sheshkant Foundation plans to start operation from January next year. Prior to that, the foundation is sending four people to Germany to acquire adequate knowledge on vocational skills who will later train students at the training centre.

The GTS plans to introduce study courses for students ranging from diploma in mechanical engineering, diploma in electronics and short-term courses like hydropower maintenance and sewing and knitting, among others.

Dhakal informed that GTS is seeking affiliation of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).

Addressing the event, Keshav Sthapit, physical infrastructure minister of Province-3, expressed his commitment to support the establishment and functioning of the vocational training centre.

Similarly, Roland Schafer, ambassador of Germany to Nepal, said that the German government will also promote establishment of such training institutes in other parts of Nepal in the future.
