The Department of Customs (DoC) has called on interested candidates to apply for the position of customs agents after 21 years.
Issuing a notice today, the department has announced vacancy for 660 customs agents. According to Director General of the department, Yamlal Bhusal, the decision was taken to facilitate the trade sector and to promote legal trade.
At present, there are only 170 customs agents across the country. Due to lack of sufficient human resources, the agents have been outsourcing some of their designated tasks.
Earlier, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel had also stated that increasing human resources in the customs will help control revenue leakages.
He said the government expects legal trade to increase with the new recruits in the customs department.
As per the department, Nepali citizens who have completed 21 years of age can apply for the post of customs agent. Similarly, the applicant must have cleared Bachelor's Degree or any other course equivalent to Bachelor's Degree with three months of basic computer course from a valid organisation.
Meanwhile, the applicant must not have any remaining dues with the government.
The applicant should not have faced any kind of criminal or legal charges from the government. The candidate has to pay Rs 3,000 for the application form. The application is open till April 18.
Anyone missing the first deadline can fill up the form till April 25 by paying Rs 6,000.
