The Department of Tourism (DoT) has issued 15 climbing permits for this winter climbing season as of January 5.

A total of 12 male and three female climbers have been issued permits to scale four mountains of the country, including Mt Chukyima Go (6,258 metres), Mt Ama Dablam (6,814 metres), Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167 metres), and Mt Manaslu (8,163 metres).

The department has collected more than Rs 655,632 in royalties from issuing the climbing permits.

In 2022, the department collected Rs 93.10 million from issuing climbing permits for 49 mountains and peaks across the country.

A total of 475 permits were issued for Mt Ama Dablam, 404 for Mt Manaslu, 141 for Mt Himlung (7,126 metres), 42 for Mt Baruntse (7,129 metres) and five for Mt Sagarmatha (8,848.86 metres), among others, in the previous year.

Last year, a total of 1,441 climbers from 70 countries, including Nepal, had scaled various mountains. Of them, 1,110 were male while 331 were female climbers.
