Economist Dahal no more

Kathmandu, March 22

Economist and Professor Madan Kumar Dahal, who was also the former president of Nepal Economic Association, passed away at the age of 71 today while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Medical College, Kathmandu.

Dahal, also a professor at Tribhuvan University, had been suffering from pancreas-related disease since long. Dahal had written a number of books on economics and was a well-known figure in the economic and development sector of the country.

Following Dahal’s demise, Bishwambher Pyakuryal, ambassador of Nepal to Sri Lanka, wrote on his Facebook wall, “I lost my closest friend Professor Madan Kumar Dahal at 1:00pm today with whom I had my professional journey for four-and-a-half decades. He was born on 2004 Falgun 17 and died on Chaitra 8, 2075.

“My prayers to the Almighty for accessing his soul in heaven. May God give strength to his wife Neera baini to bear such a great loss. Dahal has an unforgettable place in Nepal’s economic history.”
