FNCCI likely to hold another election for VP

Kathmandu, May 2

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) is likely to hold yet another election for the post of district and municipal chamber vice-president as the post went vacant from today evening.

The concerned post at FNCCI went vacant after current Vice-president Pramod Shrestha filed his candidacy for the post of mayor of Beni municipality of Myagdi district in the upcoming local election scheduled for May 14. Shrestha has confirmed to The Himalayan Times about his candidacy for the mayoral post in the upcoming local election.

The FNCCI statute has a provision which states that any post in the FNCCI executive committee will be vacant

automatically if the person in the post is involved in active politics of the country or engages in any political post.

“Shrestha has filed his candidacy for the post of mayor. This means that the post of district and municipal chamber vice-president has gone vacant,” an official at FNCCI said seeking anonymity. The official added that FNCCI will have to call for an election to fill the post as per the FNCCI statute.

As per the FNCCI statute, its executive committee has to call a Special Annual General Meeting within six months after the post goes vacant and hold an election for the vacant post.

Meanwhile, Bhawani Rana, president of FNCCI, said that Shrestha has not informed FNCCI executive committee about his candidacy for mayoral post in the local election. “Once FNCCI executive committee is officially informed, we will take necessary steps as per the mandate of the FNCCI statute,” she informed.

In the recent election for the new executive committee of FNCCI, Shrestha had defeated industrialist Dinesh Shrestha in the vice-presidential race (district and municipal chamber).
