Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat has stressed on the need to stop the illegal activities seen in the border areas as well as resolve issues seen in revenue collection to strengthen the country's economic situation.

Speaking at a meeting of the Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee today, Minister Mahat emphasised on taking immediate initiatives to resolve the factors affecting revenue collection and to stop activities related to smuggling from across the border regions.

"There is a crucial need to identify the problems and take immediate steps to boost our economic situation. For this, each stakeholder should be sincere in fulfilling his or her duties. Although demand for goods from bordering regions has decreased, the supply has rather intensified from informal channels. Stating that the country's economy is facing some issues, Shrestha urged all stakeholder bodies to take initiatives to improve the financial situation and move the country towards a prosperous economy.

"To solve the issues seen in domestic revenue collection and in the bordering regions, security must be strengthened at all levels to stop ongoing illegal activities. I will ensure that no employee feels any kind of political pressure to allow illegal activities to continue. Also, no one should participate in illegal actions for their own greed. The issue should be taken seriously and resolved in collaboration with all bodies concerned," he shared.

Officials of Home Ministry, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department, Internal Revenue Department, Customs Department, Revenue Investigation Department and Money Laundering Investigation Department, among others, were also present.
