KATHMANDU, JULY 19

Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha has said the government and the private sector should coordinate for revival of COVID-battered tourism.

Speaking during an interaction with tourism sector stakeholders on Monday about the revival of the tourism sector, Minister Shrestha urged the private sector to assist the government in controlling the irregularities that still exist in the tourism sector.

"The tourism ministry has been working for the revival of tourism sector through immediate, medium and long-term policies," Shrestha said. "I'm planning to initiate some measures for the welfare of tourism."

Meanwhile, President of Nepal Mountaineering Association Nima Nuru Sherpa suggested establishing the mountain climbing industry as a national industry. He further recommended providing services related to mountain climbing via a one-door system.

He also demanded opening mountain climbing for various adventure sports and urged establishment of a welfare fund for deceased mountaineers.

Likewise, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal President Khum Bahadur Subedi suggested that Nepal Tourism Board should promote all the packages of Nepal's tourism sector through an online system.

He asserted that it makes little sense to carry brochures of tourist destinations through travel agencies and spend money on flights during an era of information technology.

Similarly, stating that the government has never prioritised the tourism industry, President of Hotel Association Nepal Shreejana Rana claimed that the size of industry has shrunk as the government has been unable to provide concessions and urged for relief to the tourism entrepreneurs by announcing subsidies through the Monetary Policy.
