KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 20

Nepal received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments worth Rs 33.09 billion for 236 projects in the first two months of the current fiscal year, according to the Department of Industry.

From mid-July to mid-September, pledges covered 225 small, four medium, and seven large-scale ventures. By number of projects, the information technology sector led with 120 projects totaling Rs 562.75 million, while agriculture topped by investment value, drawing Rs 21.59 billion across nine projects.

Other commitments include tourism (Rs 6.69 billion, 79 projects), manufacturing (Rs 1.24 billion, 12 projects), services (Rs 2.82 billion, 15 projects), and energy (Rs 182.55 million, one project).

During the same period, the department arranged visas for 409 foreign investors, along with 60 representatives and 107 dependents.

Since inception, the Department of Industry has approved 7,475 projects, representing a cumulative FDI commitment of Rs 684.51 billion.
