Market posts second consecutive day of decline, turnover slips further

KATHMANDU, JULY 31

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index continued its downward trend on Thursday, falling by 31.50 points, or 1.06 percent, to close at 2,922.63 points by the end of the last trading day of the week. This follows Wednesday's drop of 47.93 points, or 1.59 percent.

The Sensitive Index, which tracks Class 'A' stocks, slipped by 1.32 percent, while the Float Index, measuring actively traded shares, decreased by 1.02 percent.

Sector-wise, the market saw broad declines, with the Trading sector leading the losses at 2.44 percent. Other notable losers included Banking (1.44 percent), Investment (1.32 percent), Life Insurance (1.29 percent), Hydropower (1.15 percent), and Manufacturing and Processing (1.14 percent). The Finance sector was the only gainer, posting a rise of 1.18 percent.

Turnover also continued to decline, with total intraday trading volume reaching Rs 15.98 billion, down from Rs 16.44 billion on Wednesday. A total of 36,871,244 shares of 318 companies changed hands across 168,594 transactions.

By the close of trading, only 52 stocks advanced, while 198 declined. The market capitalization stood at Rs 4.876 trillion.
