KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 1

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index, the sole secondary market of the country, fell by 33.20 points or 1.65 percent on Sunday.

The benchmark index, which opened at 2004.58 points, reached its highest point, 2005.33 points, in today's trading at 11:00 am before a sharp plunge which steadily declined throughout the day to close at 1971.10 points.

In today's trading, the sensitive index, which measures the performance of class 'A' stocks, also fell by 1.44 percent or 5.55 points to 377.39 points. Similarly, the float index, which gauges the performance of shares actually traded, also fell by 1.66 percent or 2.31 points to 136.91 points.

Altogether, only 6,723,400 shares of 284 scrips were traded during the day through 82,800 transactions, amounting to a turnover of over Rs 1.830 billion.

The total market capitalization on Sunday was Rs 2.988 trillion.

In today's market, all the sub-indices were in the red, with the hydropower index losing the most with a 3.32 percent drop, followed by the life insurance index with a 1.96 percent drop.

Citizen Life Insurance Company Limited was the company with the top turnover at Rs 147,360,743.60. It also had the highest volume and transactions with 318,724 shares traded in 24,567 transactions. It was among the top five companies that experienced a 10 percent drop, with 50.80 points. It closed at 457.20 LTP.
