KATHMANDU, JULY 30
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 35 points or 1.33% on Tuesday, closing at 2,696.65 points at the end of the trading day.
The benchmark index opened at 2,669.41 at 11:00 am, fluctuating throughout the day. It dropped to a low of 2,609.81 at 12:40 pm before gradually increasing to 2,709.89 points at 2:39 pm. In the final 10 minutes, the index rose to reach the closing points by the last trading bell.
The sensitive index, which evaluates the performance of class 'A' stocks, rose by 0.67%, while the float index, gauging actively traded shares, increased by 1.17%.
Today, the market was predominantly positive, with only four sectors recording losses. The Banking sub-index recorded a 0.76% loss, followed by the Trading sector with 0.57%, Non-Life Insurance sector with 0.36%, and Mutual Fund sector with 0.14%. Conversely, all other sectors were in the positive, with the Hotels and Tourism sector leading the pack of gainers with a 5.99% increase, closely followed by the Finance sector with a 5.98% gain. The Others sector recorded a 3.52% gain, the Investment sector 3.15%, the Hydropower sector 3.12%, and the Development sector 2.40%.
In terms of individual performance, 189 companies advanced, 47 declined, and six remained unchanged. Four companies-Progressive Finance Limited (PROFL), Barun Hydropower Company Ltd. (BARUN), Sanjen Jalvidyut Company Limited (SJCL), and Nepal Warehousing Company Limited (NWCL)-recorded a 12% increase in their share values.
The market recorded a daily turnover of Rs 17 billion from the exchange of 40,371,778 units of shares of 329 companies in 206,643 transactions. This is a decline from the Rs 19 billion turnover recorded on Monday.
The total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.278 trillion.
