Life insurance sector leads broad market rally; turnover rises to Rs 7 billion
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 24
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) benchmark index rose 50.44 points or 1.94 per cent to close at 2,650.66 points on Monday, extending gains for the second consecutive trading day.
The sensitive index tracking Class A stocks increased 1.74 per cent while the float index measuring actively traded shares climbed 2.01 per cent, reflecting sustained investor confidence.
All market sectors recorded gains. Life insurance led sectoral performance with a 4.94 per cent increase, building on Sunday's 2.55 per cent rise. The manufacturing and processing sector followed with 3.73 per cent gains, non-life insurance rose 2.99 per cent and hotel and tourism advanced 2.24 per cent.
In term of individual stock movement, 215 scrips advanced while 37 declined and 6 remained unchanged. Jhapa Energy Limited (JHAPA) was the sole company to hit the upper circuit limit of 10 per cent.
Daily turnover increased to Rs 7 billion from Sunday's Rs 6.28 billion as investors exchanged 14,204,362 units of shares of 330 companies across 79,714 transactions.
Total market capitalisation reached Rs 4.4505 trillion by the close of trading.
