KATHMANDU, APRIL 22
After a brief gain of 12 points on Sunday following a couple of trading days of decline, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) faced another downturn on Monday, dropping by 15.41 points or 0.77% to settle at 1,969.02 points by the close of trading. The index had gained 12.29 points on Sunday.
Accompanying the benchmark index's decline, the sensitive index, which assesses the performance of class 'A' stocks, also experienced a decrease of 0.80%, while the float index, measuring actively traded shares, saw a drop of 0.81%.
In a market predominantly marked by negativity, almost all sectors ended in the red, with the Mutual Fund sector being the sole gainer, albeit with a marginal increase of just 0.02%.
Conversely, the Finance sector emerged as the top loser, experiencing a decline of 2.10%, followed by the manufacturing and processing sector with a 1.20% loss.
During this downturn, in terms of individual stocks, 49 companies advanced, while 186 declined, and 10 remained unchanged.
The negative sentiment pervaded the daily turnover as well, decreasing from Rs 2.2 billion recorded on Sunday to Rs 2.05 billion. This resulted from the exchange of 5,656,282 units of shares of 320 companies in 38,552 transactions.
The total market capitalization stood at Rs 3.122 trillion.
