KATHMANDU, AUGUST 14

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 34.29 points, or 1.17%, on Wednesday, closing at 2,957.75 points by the end of the trading day.

As the benchmark index rose, the daily turnover also increased, reaching Rs 23.4 billion. This was achieved through the exchange of 51,230,340 units of shares from 332 companies across 244,019 transactions. This marks a rise from Tuesday's intraday turnover of Rs 21.5 billion.

The Sensitive Index, which evaluates the performance of class 'A' stocks, also saw a rise of 1.63%, while the Float Index, which gauges actively traded shares, increased by 1.28%.

In terms of sector performance, only three sectors-Mutual Fund (-0.90%), Microfinance (-0.70%), and Life Insurance (-0.10%)-recorded losses. In contrast, the Finance sector led the gains with a substantial increase of 7.67%, making it the top gainer of the day. Other significant gainers included the Development Bank sector (3.07%), the Investment sector (2.49%), and the Hotels and Tourism sector (2.37%).

Regarding individual stock movements, 156 companies advanced, 79 declined, and eight remained unchanged.

Notably, nine companies-CFCL, SFCL, PROFL, MATRI, HIDCL, MHNL, HHL, IHkL, and USHL-recorded a 10% gain in their share values. However, Mandakini Hydropower Limited experienced a 10% loss in its share value.

The total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.697 trillion today.
