KATHMANDU, JULY 23
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has inked an agreement with Korea Alpine Federation to enter into mutual relationship to promote Nepali tourism in Korea.
Signed on Friday by Maheshwor Neupane as chairman of Nepal Tourism Board in witness of NTB CEO Dhananjay Regmi and Executive Committee Members Madan Acharya and Ngawa Ngima Sherpa and Sun Jung Huo as president of Korea Alpine Federation (KAF) in witness of the office bearers of KAF, the MoU aims at extending mutual cooperation and collaboration for tourism promotion.
One of the biggest umbrella sports organisations of Republic of Korea, KAF has agreed to promote sports tourism, primarily adventure sports, in Nepal. On the occasion of MoU signing ceremony, KAF President Huo praised Nepal for its world class adventure sports activities and its huge potential as a big attraction to tourists from Korea.
He also expressed willingness to make investment as well as contribution to upgrade and develop sports products in Nepal.
On the same occasion, Tourism Secretary Neupane welcomed KAF for their interest to exclusively promote Nepal as sports destination.
Earlier Friday at a different programme, a group of youth trekkers from Korea, who are setting out for trekking in Mustang within few days, were given information about Nepal and other youth participants were encouraged to experience different nature and culture based activities in Nepal.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Neupane encouraged youths to travel to Nepal where one would find a heaven for multiple activities whether mountain-, or jungle- or water- or air-based.
Nepali delegates also visited a historic sport school cum museum named after Grand Slam (14+7+2) record holding mountaineer, Park Young- Seok who lost his life at Mt Annapurna while making a new trail by himself to the top of the peak. Park set a new record of summiting all 14 eight thousanders, tallest peak from each continent and North and South poles. The visit was organised upon the invitation of Park's spouse. The museum, designed architecturally to look like Mt Annapurna has a collection of mountaineering gears Park used and extensive pictures and videos that highlight Nepal in the most profound way. Park's widow who runs the museum with wide support from government, different organisations and people of Korea showed her attachment to Nepal and expressed her efforts to promote Nepal through all possible means.
