Kathmandu, January 8

The Metropolitan Crime Division of the Nepal Police has arrested two owners of Blue Star Overseas and padlocked the company today.

After receiving grievances from the victims, the police arrested Ram Ghimire and Sanjay Upreti - the owners of Blue Star Overseas.

“They had collected altogether Rs 1,065,000 from 26 people long time back with promises to send them to Kuwait, but they had not even started the formal process yet. In collaboration with the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), we arrested the two owners,” informed Senior Superintendent of Police Dibesh Lohani.

The crime division has handed over Ghimire and Upreti to the DoFE for further investigation. The victims had registered their complaints at the division on Thursday. Along with Osan Giri of Sindhupalchowk, 25 others had registered their complaints at the crime division.

The police also confiscated 371 sets of passports, visa entry register, files related to financial transactions and demand letters. Lohani also stated that the manpower company had collected money from youths even before they had received a contract letter from the employing company or had been granted the visa for the destination country.

As per the provision of Foreign Employment Act 2007, the government can scrap the operating licence of the manpower company found to be duping job-seekers. Similarly, the owners can be fined between Rs 300,000 and Rs 500,000 and sentenced to three to seven years in prison, if found guilty.
