KATHMANDU, JULY 12

The power purchase agreement (PPA) of 44.52 MW Sani Beri Hydroelectric Project to be constructed in Rukum East has been completed.

The PPA was signed today between the promoters of the project, Expert Hydro Investment Pvt Ltd and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Chairman of Expert Group Jayaram Aryal and Managing Director of NEA Kulman Ghising signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

As per the agreement, the electricity produced by the project will be purchased by the NEA at Rs 8.40 per unit in winter and Rs 4.80 per unit in the monsoon season.

The project will be built on the Sani Bheri River at Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality and Sisne Rural Municipality of Rukum East.

The design discharge of the project with a head of 145 metres is 36.8 cubic metres per second. A 4.3-kilometre tunnel and 310 metres of penstock pipe will be used in the project.

The project will also have to build a 20-km long 132 kV transmission line from the project's powerhouse to NEA's Bafikot substation and upgrade 10 km access road. The cost of the project has been estimated at nine billion rupees.

Chairman of Expert Hydro Aryal shared that the financial management procedures related to the project will be completed within this year. The project has set a target to start production within mid-January 2028 and will produce 283.37 gigawatt hours of electricity annually.
