KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 8
Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has emphasised that private sector should be involved in productive activities rather than engage in protests.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of 'FEEN Electro-Tech 2022' exhibition held here today, Finance Minister Sharma said that he had urged the prime minister to intervene to solve the current economic crises.
"After the task force comprising representatives from the private sector, the Nepal Rastra Bank, the Ministry of Industry Commerce and supply and the Ministry of Finance failed to solve the current economic downturn, I've requested Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to intervene to address the problems of businesspersons."
Sharma further stated that the government is holding series of meetings about liquidity crunch in the banking and financial sector, high interest rates and current capital loan guidelines.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kul Man Ghising informed that the authority is currently focusing on the development of electrical infrastructure to increase electricity consumption.
He said that Nepal will be self-sufficient in terms of power in the next two years and will not need to import electricity even during the dry season.
