Regional trade fair in east to start soon

Kathmandu, December 28:

Damak Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will hold the eastern development region industrial, tourism and agriculture fair, ‘Damak Festival 2009’ from January 2 to 11.

Krishna Prasad Tamrakar, vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce (FNCCI), said festivals are a good medium to boost local products.

He also stressed on the management aspect of fairsl. “We do not have well facilitated exhibition halls for international fairs. The government should focus on it,” he added.

Along with the Damak Festival 2009, the Eastern Region Festival in Gaighat of Udaypur will be on from January 29 to February 8.

According to the organising committee of the Damak Festival, there will be more than 180 stalls in the festival and at least two lakh people are expected to visit while the expected financial transaction volume is estimated at around Rs 90 million.

Among the 31 estimated fairs till date, FNCCI conducted eight fairs this year.

Pokhara fest on

KATHMANDU: Minister for Water Resources Vishnu Poudel inaugurated the 10th Pokhara Street Festival 2008-09 on Sunday. The Pokhara chapter of Restaurant and Bar Association (REBAN) said the fest has 15 restaurant and 20 business stalls in the camp area. The street festival will go on till January 1, 2009. — HNS
