MANGALBARE: The paying guest concept has been effective in promoting tourism in the rural areas of Ilam. The concept was developed to promote tourism in the rural areas where no or very few tourists used to visit in the past due to lack of infrastructure like hotels. Under the concept, locals host tourists in their homes and provide them food as well. The paying guest system is flourishing in Antu, Kanyam, Siddhithumka, Majurmukhi and Maipokhari.
