St Xavier's College, Maitighar, organised the second edition of Nepal Adhyayan Sambad on Thursday, bringing together students, scholars and experts for discussions on Nepal's history, development, social diversity and future.
Organised by the Faculty of English under the Department of Major Arts, the programme was held as part of the fourth-year BA compulsory course under the theme "Nepal We Inherit, Nepal We Envision."
The event featured two panel discussions, "Reimagining Nepal: History and Development through a Critical Lens" and "Nurturing Harmony in Social Diversity." The discussions covered Nepal's political system, economy, foreign affairs, culture, identity, heritage, tourism and social diversity.
The speakers included former Nepal ambassador to the United Nations Prof Dr Jaya Raj Acharya, Tribhuvan University's Head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy Apekshya Shah, Associate Professor at the Central Department of Anthropology Dr Janak Rai, and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr Suresh Suras Shrestha.
The programme followed an interactive format, with fourth-year students directly questioning the panelists and discussing contemporary issues facing the country.
Head of the Department of Major Arts Shishir Kumar Bhusal said the programme provided students with an opportunity to critically examine Nepal's historical, cultural, social and political narratives.
College Principal Father Dr Augustine Thomas SJ said engaging with diverse perspectives helped students develop a broader understanding of Nepal, noting that no single voice could fully represent the story of a nation.
The programme was held at Miller Hall, Loyola Campus, St Xavier's College, Thapathali, and marked the continuation of the college's initiative to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and critical engagement among students and experts.
