Supreme Court issues verdict to control haphazard sale of liquor

The Supreme Court has issued a verdict to the government to control the rampant production and sale of liquor and advertisements of the alcoholic beverages through mass media, hoarding boards and other means.

The division bench of Justices Om Prakash Mishra and Tej Bahadur KC has issued the verdict to the government to strictly control the haphazard production, sale and advertisements of liquor. The division bench issued the verdict on a petition filed by advocate Bishnu Prasad Pokharel citing that the haphazard production and sale of liquor was a leading cause for violence against women. The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers was named the defendant of writ petition.

The apex court verdict has ordered the government to specify the age group that can purchase liquor, places where liquor cannot be consumed and fix the points of sale.

The verdict of the court has ordered the government to control the indecent and obscene advertisements using exotic pictures of girls through hoarding boards, newspapers, posters and pamphlets.
