Trade value drops Rs 831.7 million in first four months of fiscal year
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 28
Tea exports through the eastern checkpoint at Kakadbhitta have declined sharply, with shipments worth Rs 1.373 billion exported in the first four months of the current fiscal year, representing a 37 per cent drop compared to the same period last year.
A total of 4,688,932 kilograms of tea was exported to India during the reporting period, according to the Public Information Officer at Mechi Customs Office, Ishwor Kumar Humagain. The contraction reflects a significant reversal from the previous year, when tea exports valued at Rs 2.205 billion were recorded during the corresponding four-month period.
The export decline amounts to a loss of Rs 831.7 million in trade value, signalling challenges in Nepal's tea sector amid competitive pressures in regional markets.
