Large cardamom exports see slight decline; molasses and veneer sheets among top gainers

Tea exports from Mechi Customs Office rose by 32.50 percent in the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), according to the latest data provided by the customs office. From Shrawan to Ashadh, tea worth Rs 4.21 billion was exported through this eastern customs point.
According to the custom office, a total of 15,416.756 metric tons of tea were exported during the fiscal year. In contrast, tea worth Rs 3.17 billion was exported in FY 2080/81, indicating strong year-on-year growth.
However, the data also showed a 3.20 percent decline in exports of large cardamom (alaichi). Cardamom worth Rs 7.67 billion was exported in FY 2081/82, down from Rs 7.93 billion in the previous fiscal year.
Notable gains in molasses, veneer exports
The customs office recorded sharp increases in several other export categories. Veneer sheet exports rose by 72.30 percent, iron sheets by 1.8 percent, plywood by 7.60 percent, and molasses saw a remarkable 247.50 percent rise.
Meanwhile, several key commodities recorded a decline. Cement clinker exports dropped by 13 percent, ginger by 60.70 percent, broom grass (amriso) by 14.90 percent, and churpi (hard cheese) by 1.5 percent.
In total, Mechi Customs Office facilitated the export of goods worth Rs 25.13 billion in the last fiscal year.
